Membership is selective and decisions are taken by the sculptors on Council on the basis of the work presented in the application process which is open to all sculptors and artists working in three dimensions worldwide. There are three types of Membership:

Bursary

Awarded annually these 10 Bursaries are designed to assist the winners in making the transition to full professional practice and places are not therefore normally awarded to current students. It is advertised annually, open to all and usually selected in the spring.

Associate (ARBS)

This is for established sculptors who have acquired knowledge, expertise and experience in the art form and are able to demonstrate that they are working to a professional level. Candidates will normally have successfully completed relevant formal studies but this is not essential. Applications are considered four times a year. Associate Membership to the Society is £150 per year.

Fellowship (FRBS)

Fellowships are at the sole discretion of the existing body of Fellows and are not open to application. Nominations, normally of Associates, are made by any two existing Fellows to an annual meeting, which considers the proposal. Fellowships are for sculptors of special distinction with a proven track record of outstanding achievement within the discipline. Fellowship is £180 per year.
