Anne Mercedes, ARBS
I explore tensions and the expressive possibilities of the varied materials I choose to work with.
Each sculpture is an investigation into a compound of perceptions, emotions and thoughts I want to convey visually.
We are caught in different scales of time and space: it is both a thrilling and disquieting perspective that is constantly present in my mind.
I am drawn to working with ceramics because of its ability to capture and reveal movements taking place during the firing, and with bronze because it allows embodying unbalance and aerial compositions.
I studied History and Philosophy (1981-1988) before doing a BA in Ceramics at the University of Westminster (2004-2007). I was invited to exhibit in Korea at the World Ceramic Foundation in 2009, and at Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 2010. I am the 2010 recipient of the Brian Mercer Bronze Residency.
