Susan Forsyth re-presents abstract and representational work from the sculptural canon. Reversing the relationship between the maquette and the finished object; full scale gilded works are fabricated in ephemeral cardboard or OSB sterling board and small-scale maquettes are exquisite polished gilded steel. Casting processes are explored where mannequin heads, ping-pong bats and 'killer heels' are cast in iron and displayed with the cups and bleeds of foundry processes intact. Forsyth exhibits widely across the UK and worked on projects in Zurich, Warsaw and Lisbon. In 2009 she was nominated for the prestigious Jerwood Sculpture Prize and was recently short-listed for the Royal British Society of Sculptors' First@108 Public Art Award 2011.
‘I originally trained as a painter and in some sense my work remains rooted in drawing - working quickly I ignore the conventional distinction between figuration and abstraction, focusing on process and the possibility of aesthetic bliss.' ~ Susan Forsyth
