Bursary Awards

As part of its support for early career sculptors, the RBS offers 10 Bursary Awards every year to those who show a high level of potential for further original contributions to the art form. A Bursary Award enables a sculptor to participate in the Bursary Award Show at the RBS gallery, to enjoy all the benefits of membership for 2 years with no subscription fee and to become a full Associate at the end of this period. Applications will next be considered in April 2012 and will be advertised on the website and in a-n magazine. These awards are currently supported by the Gilbert Bayes Charitable Trust.

Brian Mercer Residencies in Stone Carving and Bronze Casting

These two fully supported 3 month scholarships are available only to RBS members, and provide an opportunity for sculptors to experiment with a new material under instruction from master craftsmen.

The Stone Carving Residency, based at the Foundazione Sem in Pietrasanta allows the sculptor to experiment with marble and learn from experts working in this field. Whilst working at Fonderia Artistica Mariani in Pietrasanta, the recipient of the Bronze Casting Residency will learn the technical aspects of the casting process, thus expanding their skills and developing their practice.

Past members who have completed the residency include:
