Education & Schools

At the heart of the RBS education programme are the convictions that through art people enrich their lives and that sculpture is a powerful agent for opening minds, releasing creativity and contributing to learning skills.

The RBS offers a variety of awards and residencies for sculptors at every stage of their practice and a growing number of talks, workshops and programmes for the public, young people and schools. For more information, please contact our Schools Coordinator Cynthia Scoville or download a copy of the Schools Newsletter here.

Schools Programme

Three Dimensions
This programme for 4 -11 year olds offers valuable opportunities for children to engage with sculpture through guided discussion, observation and practical making sessions.

3D+
We hope to build on the success of our Three Dimensions gallery visits by introducing a new extended schools programme for Key Stage 3 pupils (11 – 14 year olds). We are currently seeking funds to support this new project.

Making It
This new project offers unique opportunities for 16 - 18 year olds to participate in ambitious workshops during their A level course and compete for a studio vplacement with a professional sculptor. In 2011 we are piloting a programme with two London Boroughs and seeking support for a future extended scheme.

Professional Programme

The RBS helps sculptors from the earliest stages of their professional practice and stays with them as they progress through their careers, providing guidance and help in the development of new skills.

Sculpting a Living: the business elements
Each spring and autumn we offer one day Professional Development Seminars for Sculptors, which are open to all. The topics are delivered by artists and industry experts, focusing on sculpture as a profession. Limited sponsorship allows us to keep the fees at an affordable level.

Fellows Mentoring
One of the great strengths of the Society is that our membership encompasses sculptors from every stage of practice, from newly emerging to fully established practitioners.  The Fellows Mentoring Scheme enables an exchange of knowledge and experience that is invaluable to our membership.

Awards and Residencies
The Education activities of the Society also extend to Awards and Residencies. Please visit this section of the website for further details.
