Brian Mercer Residency

1 every year

A fully supported scholarship to experiment with marble under instruction from master craftsmen for three months, the 2007 Brian Mercer Residency at ‘Fondazione Sem’ in Pietrasanta (Tuscany) is a fabulous opportunity for a professional sculptor. The aim is to enable a sculptor to expand their skills, extend their own boundaries and develop their practice. It is not about producing a finished work.

Who is eligible?
Only RBS members are eligible to apply for selection. Whilst experience of working with marble is not required, sculptors will need to have some evidence of stone carving skills. A core concept of the award is that it should support the artistic development of a sculptor with a minimum of five years professional experience who would not otherwise have the opportunity to work in marble.

2006 Residency awarded to: Nicolas Moreton

2007 Residency awarded to: Louise Plant
(going this October)
